Organizing For Speed

Organizing for Speed traces where work waits or repeats, tests the cause, and recommends the least disruptive repair that preserves necessary controls.

An org chart shows reporting relationships. It does not show where a decision waited, why work returned for rework, or whether an approval protected a real guardrail. Structural change needs evidence about missions, authority, dependencies, capacity, information, process, and consequences.

This playbook starts with decision flow and competing hypotheses. It tests process, authority, and interface repairs before proposing new boundaries. When structure is supported, it uses reversible transitions, explicit evidence gates, and authorized human review while preserving legal, safety, trust, financial, accessibility, and quality controls.

Do not redraw the organization until the evidence shows which boundary is causing the delay.

SIGNALS YOU NEED THIS
Routine decisions pass through approval layers that rarely change the work.
Several units contribute to one outcome, but no initiative lead owns the tradeoff.
A proposed reorganization has no decision-flow evidence, pilot, or rollback rule.
REPLACES
Preference-driven reorganizations, unsupported speed promises, and control removal disguised as simplification.
